"Nearly everyone carries a mobile phone with them all the time, and most of us are familiar with `texting`," said Mark Fraser, Managing Director, Sell Student Books.com Ltd. "It means the service is really easy and convenient to use".

After receiving a text, the site searches the 900,000 books currently available in the database and within seconds it replies with the availability and price of the book. The buyer can then reserve the book for 24 hours by replying `reserve`.

"For example, when students receive their course wanted list they can check, within seconds, the availability of any of those books using the `texting` service and then go to reserve the book."

Users selling their old academic books can instantly receive a text message when one of their books has been sold, enabling them to respond swiftly to secure the sale.
